Changelog
The release notes of Ensō. Ensō is not in the App Store yet, so this page lists what the first release will bring; every update after it gets its own entry, newest on top.
Coming: the first release
The first version of Ensō is a complete Jellyfin client for Apple devices. This is what it will bring:
- Plays your files as they are. Ensō’s playback engine opens MKV and other formats on the device, so your server does not have to transcode what the device can handle itself. Details: direct play.
- Downloads that keep up with you. The original file or a smaller version for offline viewing; interrupted downloads carry on where they stopped, even after you close the app; Smart Downloads keep the next episodes ready. Details: offline downloads.
- One app for the whole household. Several accounts and servers, with a choice of who is watching at launch; every account keeps its own libraries, resume points and downloads. Details: accounts and servers.
- Parental controls that mean it. Limit titles by age rating (FSK, MPAA and TV ratings are understood) and unlock with a PIN or Face ID; switching accounts is protected as well. Details: parental controls.
- Skips what you do not need. Jump over intros and carry on with the next episode automatically; the next episode is prepared in the background, so it starts instantly. Audio and subtitle languages follow your Jellyfin settings.
- Private by design. No ads, no analytics, no tracking. Ensō only talks to your own Jellyfin server, and your sign-in stays in the iOS Keychain.
- 73 languages and variants, including right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew.
- On iPhone and iPad (iOS 16 or later), on Apple TV (tvOS 17 or later), and with a companion app for Apple Watch. See iPhone and iPad and Apple TV.
How we write release notes
Every entry says what changed for you, in plain words, grouped as New, Improved and Fixed. Nothing is left out because it is small, and nothing is claimed that the app does not do. If a change affects your data or your privacy, it says so, and the privacy policy is updated at the same time.
Earlier versions
There are none yet. Ensō is coming to the App Store; we announce the launch on this website, and the first entry of this page appears with it.
Tell us what you miss
What goes into the next version is decided by what people need. If something is missing or wrong, tell us through the feedback form (or under Settings → Support in the app); the questions people ask most are answered in the FAQ.
